Late Spring in South Carolina

The Memphis Bell was one of few B-17 bombers to successfully complete 25 bombing missions over Germany required for rotation back to the US without losing a crew member. The plane was named “Memphis Bell” in honor of the pilot’s girlfriend who had grownup in Memphis. He grew up in Asheville. While touring Asheville in a horse drawn carriage the guide related this information. Apparently, when the Memphis Bell came to Asheville on the obligatory war bond tour, the pilot buzzed the crowd, flying between the city and county administration buildings. I crated this composite to depict the event.
